Talk regarding the 50th anniversary since the play “Canto do Papão /Fantoche Lusitano” by Peter Weiss had its premiere at the Scala-Teatern in Stockholm, with the purpose of discussing its importance as a historical document in the fight against Portuguese fascism and colonialism and to rethink its re-staging nowadays. In this context, a roundtable will take place with the participation of the following researchers and theatre directors: Cláudia Madeira (FCSH / Universidade Nova de Lisboa) and Carlos J. Pessoa (Teatro da Garagem, ESTC), the proponents of the future staging of the play Canto do Papão Lusitano; Vera San Payo de Lemos (FL / Universidade de Lisbon) who has developed research on German Theatre in Portugal, namely, regarding this play; Maria Manuela Gouveia Delille (Universidade de Coimbra) who worked on the reception of the play; Peter Hannenberg (Universidade Católica de Lisboa) who studied Peter Weiss’ archives in Berlin to analyse the historical and documentary nature of its construction; Manuel Silva Pereira who staged the play in the post-25th of April in Portugal and Margarida Tavares that will give an account of some echoes of the staging of the play in Caldas da Rainha.
